like clockwork. cd 27 brings cramps... cd 28 light spotting... and cd 29 = cd 1. yay. fortunately, i'm not surprised. i just no longer believe that we're going to get pregnant without some medical help. what's sad is that i've somehow managed to lose mil's s.a. referral. (there's probably something freudian in all of this.) i called my ob-gyn's office to find out if there are any other labs that my doctor works with that accept our insurance, but they didn't seem to know (and couldn't even find the original referral). instead the woman gave me the names of some r.e. clinics that they work with... hmm... i'm very tempted to just call these clinics and start there with someone who specializes in i.f. but i'm not sure if i should wait the 1 extra month for i.f. to be official. i'm tired of waiting. in my heart, i know something is wrong, and i want to know what it is, so we can do something about it. i feel like every month we wait to do something, is a month we could have had a real shot at making a baby.
anyway... i'm going to discuss with mil and see what he thinks. seems like it might be a waste to start with the ob-gyn, just to be transferred to an r.e. a month or two later (and likely repeat some of the same tests). and it doesn't hurt that the r.e.'s office is literally down the block from my apartment... you ladies have had the best advice so far... any tips on making sure you've found a good r.e.?

My RE is not the greatest at bedside manner, but she is a leader in her field. If you have any large teaching hospitals near where you live, go to them for a referral. The best and brightest usually migrate to those hospitals and the funding for research also goes there as well. Also, ask around. See who fellow infertiles go to. Check with your insurance company, because for me, there were two great clinics to choose from. One, however, used a lab that my insurance did not cover at 100%. This meant that had I chosen them, we would have had to pay for a percentage of all of our testing. Finally, go into the office, ask to meet with the office manager to ask about clinic philosophies, ask to talk to the billing coordinator to see what their policies are. Get a feeling for the office in general, they should be happy to do it, and there shouldn't be any charge. Good luck!
Make an appt with an RE.
We made an appointment 3 months before it was "official" and it truly saved my sanity. I am a totally different person now that we're seeking treatment. I felt the exact same way as you - that every month was a wasted opportunity.
Katie has some great advice for picking an RE. Get to a doc and find some answers - you'll feel like a different woman!
thank you both for the advice. i will call tomorrow and see if they mind if i just stop by to check out the place. it's also good to know that i'm not crazy for wanting answers now -- instead of a month from now.
